About
WHAT IS GROOVIN THE MOO?
It doesn’t feel all that long ago. It was 2003 and two friendly Newcastle neighbours (a high school teacher and a statistician) came up with an idea over a drink; a music event, but different. The music would be great of course, but it would also be something that the local community could be part of; Newcastle TAFE music school, local clubs and businesses. It would be an event for everyone, serviced by local community groups with the main focus being on fun and affordability. As the idea grew and it gained momentum with the support from the neighbourhood, Groovin the Moo was born.
Fast forward to Saturday 24 April 2005, Groovin the Moo’s first show and inaugural year. After setting up at the Gloucester Showgrounds (NSW), 1,400 people streamed through the gates to see the Screaming Jets, Killing Heidi, Evermore, Grinspoon and a bunch of local Newcastle bands. What a special moment, seeing your idea come to life.
Returning in 2006, taking to Maitland (NSW), Albury (NSW) and Darwin (NT), GTM featured its very first International act, Gomez (UK) alongside Aussie legends Hilltop Hoods, The Herd, Faker and more.
After only just two years, in 2007, Maitland GTM saw its first sell-out show, with Silverchair and The Black Keys (USA) headlining. This same year, GTM visited Albury one more time with the likes of Grinspoon, Sneaky Sound System and Xavier Rudd.
In 2008, Maitland sold out again. GTM also got to see how much the Northern Queenslanders loved to party when the show went to Townsville (QLD) bringing along The Presents, The Potbelleez and Spiderbait.
The GTM family grew in 2009 and expanded to Bendigo (VIC) in addition to returning to Maitland and Townsville, but it didn’t stop there. In 2010, two new shows were added – Bunbury (WA) and Canberra (ACT). With an epic selection of bands always present on the bill, the GTM team worked hard to deliver three weekends of magic and mayhem.
GTM didn’t slow down over the course of 2011, 2012 and 2013, focusing on ensuring that every show continued to grow and be bigger and better than the previous year. The hard work paid off, with the line up continuing to grow and the events selling out nationally each year.
In 2014, long-laid plans of expanding into the Adelaide Hills region (SA) came to life as GTM took to Oakbank. The following years, 2015 and 2016 saw the GTM tour continue at this pace, touring across five states and a territory over three weekends, each year!
In 2017, South Australians descended on Wayville, making the state’s agricultural Showground the new home for their local GTM. 2018 provided the opportunity to consolidate and reflect on how the music, culture and community of each region is knitted together to form the rich tapestry that is a GTM show.
This year, GTM is very much looking forward to welcoming back patrons, artists, each local community and team members alike. Moo Crew from the ACT and surrounding districts will check in to a new home at EPIC as GTM Canberra starts a fresh chapter at the established venue.
It’s been quite the journey so far, sometimes it still feels as though the festival has only just begun, such is the fresh energy that the GTM community brings to this festival, all eager to grow something of their own. The GTM community includes our audience, artists, team members, suppliers and stakeholders – it is one we love, have much to thank for and would not want to change in any way, shape or form.

Media accreditation will only be granted to members of the media who represent recognised and legitimate media organisations.
Freelance journalists and photographers will only be granted accreditation if they are working on behalf of a recognised and legitimate media outlet. All applications will be checked with editors.
Please note, there is limited availability for media accreditation requests.
If you are a high school, TAFE, University Student or amateur photographer who would like to shoot GTM, please get in touch by sending a general email to moo@gtm.net.au expressing your interest and including links to your work. Please DO NOT send large file attachments with your request.

Media Accreditation for GTM 2019 will open at 8.00am on Wednesday 27 February 2019 and will close on Wednesday 20 March 2019 at 5.00pm AEDT.
If you are a REVIEWER and / or a PHOTOGRAPHER wishing to attend one of the six GTM 2019 events, please complete the Media Accreditation Application Form once applications open.
Please ensure the form is completed in full, incomplete applications will not be accepted or considered. Due to GTM being a licensed all ages event, all applicants must ensure a Date Of Birth (DOB) is included in their submission and that valid photo ID can be presented when collecting their accreditation at the event(s).
Outside of our official media partners, we will not be accepting applications for on ground video crews for GTM 2019. Please email hello@morsecodepr.com.au if you have queries on this.
Your application will be acknowledged with a reply email and you will be advised of the status of your application no later than Wednesday 27 March 2019.
All reviewers will be issued with a wristband which grants general admission access to the festival site. Any access above and beyond general admission is at the discretion of GTM.
There is a strictly limited number of pit access photo passes for each event. ALL photographers accredited with a media pass must complete and sign a release form when collecting their pass at the event(s).
Accredited photographers have access to the general admission areas of the site and the photo pit in front of each stage for the first three (3) songs of each artist unless otherwise advised by GTM event staff. Please note the use of flash photography is not permitted at any time.
Closed shoes are to be worn at all times and directions and/ or requests of the publicity team, security and/ or any event staff at any given event must be followed. Not wearing closed in shoes will result in denied access to all Photo Pits.
Photographers who are not granted a media pass with pit access will be issued with Photo Permission Letter which must be carried with them at all times. This letter will be provided at Guest Services on the day of the event and permits them to bring a professional camera into the event with permission to shoot still photography from the crowd only.
There’s no media area on site at GTM, however there are various charging stations around the festival site. We do recommend that photographers wishing to file photos throughout the day bring their own USB wireless equipment.
GTM is not responsible for any media equipment.
There is strictly no backstage or side of stage access for any photographers or reviewers under any circumstances.
All passes and reviewer tickets are to be collected by showing Photo ID from the GUEST SERVICES box office (unless the GTM Publicity Team has advised you of other arrangements) which is located just outside the main public entrance of the event.
ALL working members of the media who are collecting any accredited passes (i.e if you are operating ANY audio and/or photography equipment) will be required to sign a release form in order to collect their pass at any event(s).
Note: Valid photo ID is also required to receive an ’18+’ wristband to access the licensed areas of the event. The only forms of valid photo ID that will be accepted are current Australian driver’s licence, current passport (supported by another form of ID), current state issued proof of age card. Please note: for GTM Bunbury, only a WA proof of age card will be accepted – other state issued proof of age cards will not be accepted). Please note that an international driver’s license is not accepted as a valid form of identification at any GTM Event.
Media accreditation is not transferable. All passes must contain the correct name of the media representative. Pass swapping is not permitted and anyone found to do so will be immediately escorted from site.
Should a change of name be required prior to the event please email hello@morsecodepr.com.au at least two weeks before the relevant event explaining the reason for the change. As these events are so busy changes to media accreditation on the day of any given event cannot be guaranteed.
If you still have queries, please email hello@morsecodepr.com.au and you will receive a response within 48 hours.
Many thanks for your interest in GTM.
Accessibility
Groovin the Moo welcomes everyone and we are constantly working on ways to improve the festival experience for all. Here are some things that might be useful for you to know before you arrive:
We have a designated accessible parking area for day guests. Check the site map for the exact location. This day parking area is automatically available for any vehicle bearing a standard Disability Parking Permit – just follow the Accessible Parking signs once you enter the car park.
We are aware that some disabilities are of a more temporary nature and if you don’t have an official sticker and need to use the Accessible Day Parking area, we invite you to let us know when you arrive. Drop us a line at tickets@gtm.net.au to arrange this.
CARERS
We understand that equal access can sometimes mean being accompanied by a carer, and so we offer complimentary carer/companion tickets on an individual needs basis. If you’d like to chat to us about this, just send an email to tickets@gtm.net.au so we can begin the conversation.
ASSISTANCE ANIMALS
We understand that equal access can sometimes mean being accompanied by an Assistance Animal. To help us support you and your Assistance Animal on site, please email us at tickets@gtm.net.au
INSIDE THE FESTIVAL
Accessible toilets can be found within the festival grounds and will be marked clearly on the site map.
