Born in Darwin and raised in the remote NT communities Milingimbi and Maningrida, 20-year-old Danzel Baker AKA Baker Boy is the freshest new Yolngu hip-hop talent from the Top End. Young, strong and proud Baker Boy raps in Yolngu Matha language representing his Arnhem Land bloodlines. He knows his value, his worth and he raps on ‘Cloud 9’ so others get it.
Baker Boy is known as a multi-talented, multi-lingual artist, working across rap, dance, acting and graffiti, and he hopes to inspire younger generations to embrace their culture and become leaders in their communities.
It’s been a whirlwind of success since the debut of Baker Boy, ‘Cloud 9’ has manifested into a full-blown Cyclone Baker. He’s been placed on high rotation on triple j and won the triple j Unearthed NIMA competition. As part of his prize, Baker Boy was flown to Darwin where he knocked out a fully-charged live performance of ‘Cloud 9’. “Playing on the same stage that night with A.B. Original, Dan Sultan and Emily Wurramara blew my mind”. Evening out a strong debut year, he scored two awards at the NT Song of the Year Awards 2017.
